F&D Engineering was awarded a design and construction management contract by the University of Colorado to re-design and improve several blocks of 18th Street which runs through the heart of the Boulder Campus from east to west. This section of 18th Street is heavily used by buses, delivery vehicles, bicycle riders, pedestrians and vehicles. The street and sidewalks had badly deteriorated road base, poor stormwater drainage, poor multimodal connectivity, was not ADA compliant and did not conform with the Campus streetscape requirements.
The F&D engineers provided full engineering and design services to develop solutions to provide the upgrades within a tight budget and schedule. Our work included a redesign of the street, curbs, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, landscaping, re-routing of major utilities, stormwater improvements, new vehicle access control system and a pavement design that would hold up to the rigors of heavy traffic.
