Great Sand Dunes National Park, Environmental Restoration

The F&D team was selected to provide civil and environmental engineering, construction management and inspection services for the Park Service in a remote location of the Great Sand Dunes National Park. This project involved the restoration of the Sand Creek area of the park which included excavation and restoration of 13 former gravel pits. The work had to be completed in a very short time frame due to weather and accessibility constraints. Our staff also provided oversight of the re-vegetation of all reclaimed areas including reestablishing a rare species of Cottonwood trees, low-land and up-land grasses and re-introduction of native trout to Sand Creek.
